About the role
The Electronics Engineer - AI Trainer will help train and evaluate frontier AI models on realistic circuit- and system-level engineering problems. This contract role requires at least 3 years of electronics engineering or circuit design experience, strong expertise in circuit analysis and engineering tools, excellent written communication, and the ability to assess technical reasoning against professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design challenging, realistic electronics engineering problems based on practical experience, including circuit specification, signal-chain debugging, analog circuit analysis, and power-stage sizing.
- Author professional supporting files for assignments, including schematics, simulation setups, datasheets, measurement data, and design calculations.
- Run engineering problems through frontier AI models and evaluate the outputs against professional engineering standards.
- Compare model versions using identical prompts, determine which model performs better, and document the strengths and limitations of each version.
- Critique model-generated derivations, component selections, topologies, and calculations with detailed written rationale.
- Identify and document concrete technical failures, including incorrect assumptions, sign and unit errors, unphysical results, invalid topologies, fabricated datasheet values, and misread plots.
- Apply domain expertise across analog circuits, electronic devices and materials, RF, photonics, and signal processing.
- Use engineering judgment to distinguish technically sound reasoning from plausible but incorrect AI-generated answers.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of industry experience in electronics engineering, circuit design, or related fields.
- Current or recent experience performing technical work as an individual contributor.
- In-progress Bachelor's degree or higher in electronics engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong command of circuit analysis, electronic devices, and design tradeoffs, with the ability to defend component-level decisions.
- Fluency with simulation and engineering tools, including SPICE, schematic capture, PCB tools, lab instruments, MATLAB, and Python.
- Strong written communication and the ability to explain precisely why a technical answer is incorrect.
- Professional or native-level English.
- General familiarity with AI and LLM tools, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Location in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Ireland, or New Zealand.
- Availability for at least 10 hours per week.
Benefits and Perks
- Ultimate Flexibility: Fully remote, project-based contract work with the ability to choose projects and work times.
- Competitive Pay: Compensation of $40–$120 USD per hour, with bonus rates available on some projects.
- No Overhead: Access to Claude and ChatGPT is provided, with no personal subscriptions required.
- Work-Life Balance: Flexible multi-day task timers, no shift work, and no weekly maximum after the 10-hour minimum.
