About the role

The Embedded Systems Developer - AI Trainer will use practical expertise in embedded systems, electronics, and hardware engineering to create, evaluate, and critique realistic engineering tasks for frontier AI models. The role focuses on system-level design judgment, real hardware-software integrations, technical documentation, and identifying errors in model-generated circuits, calculations, component selections, and engineering reasoning. Applicants must have at least 3 years of industry experience, an in-progress Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline, strong written communication, and availability for at least 10 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design challenging, realistic embedded systems problems based on professional practice, including embedded control loops, signal chains, and component integrations.
  • Author supporting professional files such as simulation setups, schematics, datasheets, measurement data, and system design calculations.
  • Run engineering problems through frontier AI models and evaluate the outputs against professional engineering standards.
  • Compare two model versions using identical prompts, determine which performed better, and document where each model fell short.
  • Critique model-generated system topologies, component selections, logic, and calculations.
  • Write detailed technical rationale explaining why an answer is incorrect, incomplete, or inconsistent with engineering standards.
  • Flag and document concrete failures with evidence, including wrong assumptions, unit errors, unphysical results, invalid component choices, fabricated datasheet values, and off-brief interpretations.
  • Contribute domain expertise across embedded systems, signal processing, control loops, and mixed-signal circuits.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of industry experience in embedded systems, electronics, or hardware engineering.
  • Current or recent experience performing technical work as an individual contributor.
  • Background in electrical/electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • In-progress Bachelor's degree or higher required.
  • Strong command of system-level design tradeoffs and the ability to defend component-level decisions.
  • Fluency with engineering tools, including MATLAB, Python, SPICE, schematic capture, and lab instruments.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to articulate exactly why an answer is wrong, not just that it is wrong.
  • Professional or native-level English.
  • General familiarity with AI and LLM tools, or the ability to pick them up quickly.
  • Location in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Ireland, or New Zealand.
  • Availability for at least 10 hours per week.

Benefits and Perks

  • Ultimate Flexibility: Fully remote, project-based contract work with the ability to choose which projects to work on and when.
  • Competitive Pay: $40–$120 per hour USD, with bonus rates available on some projects.
  • No Overhead: Access to Claude and ChatGPT is provided; personal subscriptions are not required.
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible multi-day task timers, no shift work, and no weekly maximums after the 10-hour minimum.
