About the role
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Sr. Specialist / Mechanical Engineer to support aerospace, aviation, and defense programs in Palm Bay, Florida; Sterling, Virginia; or Carlsbad, California. The role requires an active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance, a bachelor's degree, six years of relevant experience, and hands-on expertise in 3D modeling, hardware design and development, prototyping, integration, testing, technical data package generation, and mechanical design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate Technical Data Package components for mechanical hardware.
- Create and maintain part drawings for component parts.
- Create and maintain assembly drawings for mechanical assemblies.
- Prototype component parts and assemblies.
- Integrate component parts and assemblies.
- Test component parts and assemblies in a laboratory setting.
- Develop test plans for mechanical subsystems.
- Develop test procedures for mechanical subsystems.
- Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems.
- Participate in peer reviews and required design reviews.
- Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs).
- Participate in product change review meetings and discussions.
- Implement approved design changes.
- Work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance within the last two years.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Six years of prior relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience in 3D modeling and critical hardware design and development.
- Comfort working in a lab setting with direct, hands-on involvement in hardware development and testing.

Work Schedule
Employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours worked, with every other Friday off.
