About the role
The Behavioral Health Nurse Manager provides 24-hour accountability for unit operations, resource coordination, patient-care quality, regulatory compliance, team development, performance improvement, and financial management at an inpatient behavioral health facility. The role requires at least 3 years of experience, a nursing degree, an active Registered Nurse License with a current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain one, and Basic Life Support certification; APRN-Clinical Nurse Specialist licensure and advanced life-support certifications are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume 24-hour accountability for the coordination of resources and the overall direction of behavioral health unit operations.
- Establish standards and expectations for personnel within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Promote team building, cooperation, and consensus building to support positive patient outcomes.
- Review performance expectations, provide feedback, and develop action plans to improve team effectiveness.
- Mentor and coach team members through active role modeling, rounds, team meetings, performance improvement, and evidence-based practices.
- Design and implement flexible, creative, and cost-effective plans for unit improvements.
- Identify unit-based indicators related to customer relations, clinical performance, and financial improvement.
- Assist with the preparation and implementation of operational and capital budgets, including development of a unit-based expense budget.
- Monitor financial expense variance reports for staffing and supplies and maintain financial variances within plus or minus one percent.
- Monitor current regulatory standards governing patient care and ensure that nursing staff follow applicable standards.
- Incorporate national standards of practice and care into unit-based standards and measure their effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain departmental policy and procedure manuals and ensure compliance with government regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience.
- Nursing degree.
- Registered Nurse License.
- Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain a Maryland license.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Experience in or strong familiarity with an inpatient behavioral health facility is valued for this position.
