About the role

The Staff Optic Engineer will provide technical leadership for the design, development, testing, integration, and lifecycle support of advanced fiber-optic, laser, and electro-optic technologies used in mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. This role requires a bachelor's degree, at least 7 years of optical system experience, proficiency with Zemax, and the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access U.S. export-controlled information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the design, development, testing, and support of advanced optical and electro-optical technologies.
  • Lead optical system design activities for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications.
  • Use Zemax to perform optical design, simulation, and optimization.
  • Develop and integrate fiber-optic technologies and devices into optical and electro-optical systems.
  • Apply expertise in laser systems, optical alignment techniques, and imaging-based systems to support new product development.
  • Support existing products throughout their lifecycle, including troubleshooting complex optical and electro-optical systems.
  • Create technical documentation, test procedures, and manufacturing processes for optical products.
  • Apply applicable standards related to lasers, fiber-optics, and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate on testing, integration, and manufacturing activities to advance optical solutions from development through product support.
  • Provide technical direction and informed decision-making across complex optical engineering challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience in optical system design, development, and testing.
  • Experience using Zemax for optical design, simulation, and optimization.
  • Experience developing and integrating fiber-optic technologies and devices.
  • Strong understanding of laser systems, optical alignment techniques, and imaging-based systems.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, test procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards related to lasers, fiber-optics, and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex optical and electro-optical systems.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access U.S. export-controlled information.
