About the role
The Area Manager / Recycling Operations role oversees the productivity, financial performance, safety, and overall operations of multiple recycling operating units in Brampton or Kitchener, Ontario. The position develops operating plans, leads managers and employees, reviews P&L and COGS performance, improves facility utilization and profitability, and ensures compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree, four years of relevant work experience, a valid driver's license, and availability to travel 50% of the time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement area recycling operating plans aligned with established long-range objectives, organizational initiatives, responsibilities, and authority.
- Manage the productivity, financial performance, and overall results of multiple recycling operating units.
- Counsel managers on the execution of programs, processes, and initiatives, providing direction when work plans or contingency plans require modification.
- Oversee departmental human resource needs, including employee selection, coaching, training, performance evaluation, and input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled Profit and Loss (P&L) reviews and execute action plans to improve equipment and facility utilization, equipment maintenance, labor costs, and material costs.
- Conduct regular cost of goods sold (COGS) reviews to help plants maintain or improve gross margin as costs fluctuate.
- Implement and maintain programs designed to improve area safety, productivity, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular site safety reviews with plant managers and supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid driver's license.
