This senior-level role owns estimating from early concept through final bid proposal, aligning scope with execution strategy while partnering with engineering, operations, procurement, and project management. Candidates should bring 5+ years of project estimating experience, 10+ years in engineering, project planning, and/or project management, and strong expertise in underground mechanical work packages, cost modeling, drawings, contracts, and estimating tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical estimating effort from early concept development through preparation of the final bid proposal.
- Develop accurate, competitive, and complete cost estimates for mechanical systems, including hoists and ventilation fans.
- Produce estimates for underground mechanical work packages using labor and equipment build-ups and indirect cost modeling.
- Partner closely with engineering, operations, procurement, and project management to define scope and establish a complete estimating basis.
- Align estimate scope with the execution strategy, project planning requirements, construction methods, work constraints, and safety requirements.
- Interpret and apply mechanical drawings, P&IDs, layouts, specifications, and vendor data to quantify work and support estimate development.
- Review contract requirements, including commercial terms, scope boundaries, alternates, and unit rates, and incorporate them into estimates.
- Validate constructability and evaluate project risk to improve estimate completeness, competitiveness, and execution alignment.
- Build and analyze cost models using Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, rate builds, and scenario analysis.
