About the role

AI Labs is seeking a contract Life Sciences Evaluator to assess AI-generated scientific work—including literature summaries, protocols, data interpretations, and technical reports—for accuracy, rigor, evidence support, and scientific quality. The role requires advanced life-sciences expertise, critical reading of primary literature, strong scientific writing, sound biosecurity judgment, and the ability to work independently in a remote engagement based in the US, Canada, or UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific work against quality rubrics, including literature summaries, mechanism and pathway explanations, experimental designs and protocols, data interpretations, and technical reports or slides.
  • Assess scientific quality, accuracy, rigor, experimental logic, and whether conclusions are supported by the cited evidence.
  • Identify factual errors, fabricated or misattributed citations, invented mechanisms, flawed experimental logic, and unsupported conclusions.
  • Read primary literature critically and distinguish well-supported claims from plausible-sounding claims.
  • Write clear, structured feedback and concise justifications for every score.
  • Apply current laboratory and computational methods in your subfield while accounting for their limitations.
  • Use sound judgment when reviewing biosecurity and dual-use content and follow strict content-handling guidelines.
  • Help refine grading criteria and iterate on evaluation practices based on feedback from senior reviewers.
  • Work independently, follow complex instructions, reason through ambiguity, and identify errors in confident, well-sourced work.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in a life-sciences field, or a Master's degree with 2–3 years of hands-on research experience.
  • Subfield depth in an area such as molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, neuroscience, physiology, or bioinformatics.
  • Working familiarity with current laboratory and computational methods in your subfield, including their limitations.
  • Ability to read primary literature critically and distinguish a well-supported claim from a plausible-sounding one.
  • Excellent scientific writing in English and the ability to explain a judgment concisely.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, reason through ambiguity, and spot errors in work that reads as confident and well sourced.
  • Ability to clearly separate what you know from what you are inferring, including where evidence supports a conclusion and where it does not.
  • Sound judgment on biosecurity and dual-use content and willingness to follow strict handling guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently, learn new tools quickly, and take feedback well.
  • Availability for 10+ hours per week for the full 12-week engagement.
  • Ability to complete required onboarding on content-handling guidelines before starting.
